Frequently asked Questions

Finding the perfect van hire shouldn't be complicated. Explore our van hire FAQs below for clear, expert answers to your biggest questions on vehicle sizes, driving requirements, and flexible rental terms.

Question: Can I drive your vans on a standard UK Licence?
Answer:
Yes, you can. All vans in the JAMJAK rental fleet can be driven with a standard UK driving licence. Both our Large Vans and Luton Vans have a Maximum Gross Weight (also known as Gross Vehicle Weight or GVW) of 3500kg (3.5 tonnes). This falls exactly within the legal limit for standard UK licence holders, meaning you don't need any special commercial qualifications or licence extensions to hire and drive them.

Question: How old do I have to be to hire a van from JAMJAK?
Answer:
To hire a vehicle from JAMJAK, drivers must be between the ages of 25 and 70. This age restriction is a strict requirement set by our insurance policy provider to ensure all rental vehicles are fully covered

Question: Do I need to pay a security deposit for JAMJAK van hire?
Answer:
Yes, every van hire with JAMJAK requires a fully refundable deposit of £200. This security deposit is temporarily held at the start of your rental period. Provided the van is returned on time, with a full tank of fuel, and is not damaged in any way, the £200 deposit will be fully refunded back to your bank account at the end of the hire period.

Question: Can I take a JAMJAK Van to Europe?

Answer: Yes, you can. JAMJAK fully supports European van hire, allowing you to drive our rental vehicles across mainland Europe. Because driving abroad requires additional legal documentation and extended cover, there are extra charges involved for European travel. These include:

  • VE103 Certificate: A mandatory legal document required to take a hired vehicle out of the UK.

  • European Insurance Cover: Extra insurance to ensure you are fully protected while driving abroad.

  • JAMJAK Administration Fee: A flat admin charge of £24 (including VAT) to process your European hire paperwork.

Note: Please notify our team well in advance of your trip so we can arrange the necessary VE103 certificate and insurance documentation before your collection date.

Question: Is there a mileage cap on the van hire?

Answer:Yes, every JAMJAK van hire includes a generous daily mileage allowance of 200 miles. If your journey exceeds this limit, any additional mileage will be charged at a flat rate of 12p (including VAT) per mile.

Question: What is the fuel policy for JAMJAK van hire?

Answer: We operate a "full-to-full" fuel policy. Your rental van will be handed over to you with a completely full tank of fuel. We believe this is the fairest and easiest way to hire a van. When you return the vehicle, simply refill the tank back to full at a local petrol station (Our nearest is less than 1 mile away) . This removes the guesswork, ensures you don't overpay, and means you only ever pay for the fuel you actually use.
