Damp can be a real issue for your Self Storage container if water has managed to find its way in. Throughout the year, shipping containers have a real contrast in temperatures. In the winter, they get very cold and in the summer, they can be extremely hot. Because of this, there is a potential of damp building up if proper measures are not followed. Preventing Damp from entering your Self Storage container can be dealt with quite easily if you follow the tips that we at JAMJAK have laid out in this blog. Below we have put them in the order in which we believe is most effective.

Tip 1: Don’t not store anything that is Damp or Wet.
This is the most effective way of keeping damp out of your container. Self Storage containers will only get condensation if there is water present already. Only storing dry items will help the most in keeping the water out. If this cannot be avoided, we have got other tips below which can help further.
Tip 2: Doors open on a hot summers day.
One of the best tips that that you could follow is getting those doors open wide on a hot day for as long as possible. This will allow the hot dry air outside to flow into your Slef Storage container and remove the potentially damp air that may be accumulating. In contrast to this, we also recommend that on a cold and wet day, try to avoid treading water into your Self Storage container. We understand that this is not always possible. So, we have got the other tips below which will help minimise the potential of damp.

Tip 3: Keep all vents clear
Along the top of all the Self Storage containers that JAMJAK provides, there are multiple air vents. Depending on the age of the Self Storage container, this number will vary. Keeping these clear will allow your Self Storage container to breathe, even if it is just a little. Having a small airflow will help hold back that potential damp.
Tip 4: Use Racking
At JAMJAK we provide racking hire for all our customers to hire at a small fee per month. Using the Racking will do two things for you. Firstly, allow you to stack more efficiently. Secondly, it will allow air to move freely around your items. Keeping your Self Storage container dryer. Keeping that consistent space for air to move around freely will keep that damp under control.

Tip 5: Use Dehumidifiers.
JAMJAK has dehumidifiers which we can offer to costumers. Using the crystals, the dehumidifiers will pull all the moisture out for the air and catch it. This is a last resort option if all the other tips above do not work.
We hope you find this useful
