Which size Van is best for you?

Deciding which of JAMJAK’s vans would be best suited for you, can be a tricky decision to make. You want to spend as little money as possible but you also want to make sure you can do everything efficiently and as stress free as possible. This guide below will help you make that decision.

Size.

The size of the Van is the main consideration, lets be honest. A Luton van with is 20 cubic metres of space would be great for the house move, but way too big for the new piece of garden furniture. At JAMJAK we currently have 3 van sizes for you to choose from. For a house move, we would recommend the Luton Van. It has a Large volume in the back for you to put your entire life into. The Medium van, would be perfect for the that Garden Furniture that you searched tirelessly on the internet to find. Its small with only 6 cubic metres of space, and the cheapest of what JAMJAK Currently offers. (July 2026)

Now, what about the Large Van? This Van is the most universal. It can manage house moves (but with a few more journeys) and Garden Furniture collection, with a bit of extra space for that extra thing you may find on your way home.

Drivers Confidence.

So, your moving house, changing offices, moving your stock, collecting something a bit too big for your car or loading up your Self Storage container with JAMJAK. How confident you feel with your ability to drive can be a persuading factor on which van you choose. Things to consider:

With all these considered, if you are less confident, a Medium van may be the better option for you but you will be taking more trips. It does however, relieves the stress of trying to squeeze a van that may be too big for the road you want to get down. If you are a confident driver, the larger 2 of the vans may be the better choice for those bigger moves that you need to do.

Payload, how much can I squeeze in?

Like every Vehicle on the road, each van has its own total weight limit. JAMJAK has intentionally only purchased vans that can be driven on a standard UK licence, so the weight of the van will not be a factor on whether you are legally allowed to drive it. You must be aware that the gross weight of the vehicle includes the driver, any passengers, pets, fluids, fuel and anything else that you are carrying. The gross weight is the total weight of the van and its cargo. If you are unsure of the weight of the van once you have loaded it, you can always use a public weighbridge to determine your gross weight and axle weights. Fortunately, JAMJAK is located on a site with a public weighbridge. Don’t forget the cost refuelling.

It kind of goes without saying that the larger the van, the bigger the refuelling cost. But there are other costs to consider while you hire the van. One key factor to consider within your budget is refuelling the van when you return it. Generally, the smaller the van, the less it will cost to refuel, but you must also consider that with a smaller van, there will be more trips, which could then push the mileage up and the cost to refuel with it.
